Brighten Up!
More than ever before, individuals want to make effective use of their resources, wasteful behaviour costs a lot of money. Regardless of why you want to cut bills there are several easy ways to improve energy efficiency and at the same time save you money.
Frequently on an evening we find that our homes may still be too dark, this takes place earlier and earlier as winter sets in. You may turn all the lighting on in individual rooms and have them on full, but every now and again this still isn’t enough. Not only is this insufficient lighting difficult on your eyes, but it also diminishes your willingness to continue working and may cause you to become sleepy.
When this occurs, people often rush out to buy extra lamps, stronger bulbs or even lamps with more bulbs in. New lamps and bulbs cost money both to buy and to power.
Looking at other ways of brightening up your condo or house often leads to your current lighting becoming more effective. There are easy ways to get the best out of lighting, below is some helpful ideas on doing this and saving you money at the same time.
1. The most noticeable way to freshen up is to paint your home with bright colours. There are are a multitude of paints on the market that range from a plain to a bright colour scheme, even whites have different levels of brightness.
2. Painting may not be for all of you or you may not have the ability, so if your rooms have dark walls then look at altering or renovating the furniture so it is a lighter colour. Dark wood can look dreary especially in a little room, whereas something with a metallic finish can make a room seem brighter as it has a reflective surface.
3. Put mirrors in strategic areas around the room or even around the entire property. Mirrors are good for distributing light across the complete area and, if used well, they’ll improve the ambience of the room dramatically.
4. Once again not everyone has the time to redecorate or the cash to redecorate and/or buy furniture, as a result look at cleaning the room and removing excess items. Every bit of clutter takes a bit of your precious light and darkens the space even more.
5. Often your window coverings share a bit of the blame; pale curtains will throw more light back into the room than darker ones.
6. As with any alterations, try and work with what you have in the home first before you go out spending lots of money. Reposition all bulbs to where you need light most and use existing mirrors and light surfaces to support you maximize the brightness of your room.
